Snowkite Lesson FAQ

Colorado Kite Force (CKF) Things to know before you go.

  • CKF has two locations depending on the wind direction and snow or Ice conditions. The main location is on the South end of the Dillon Reservoir, Hwy 9 and Swan Mtn rd. The second is on the North side, from the town of Dillon on lodgepole Ln.
  • CKF will contact the clients the morning of the lesson to confirm the location.
  • We recommend each customer bring what they would take to the mountain for Skiing or snowboarding. goggles, helmet, gloves, extra dry shirt, after ski boots, warm jacket, wind breaker or shell, water, snacks or lunch, camera.
  • CKF provides all kites and harnesses for beginner and group lessons.
  • Ski’s are easier to learn on, even if you are a snowboarder. But not necessary.
  • Classes usually start around 11:30am. This is because the mornings usually have very little to no wind. The wind will increase by mid day.
  • Beginner lessons are 4 hours. A shorter lesson may not get a person going on their skis or board with a kite. (which is the goal for CKF)
  • Beginners will not be getting air or flying in any way. It is a controlled environment where the power is limited by the instructor for a safer and better learning experience.
  • Restrooms are available on site. However, have no running water due to the winter environment.
  • There is ample parking at both locations however, there is no overnight parking or camping.
  • It is best to schedule your lesson during the beginning of your trip. That way if the wind dies you can finish the 2nd half of the lesson on another day.
  • If the wind dies during your lesson, the students will still complete a two hour ground school lesson, learning about kite safety systems and procedures, rigging and set up, wind and weather, rules and etiquette.
